In Search Of…? – Daily Inspiration, July 31, 2012

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

I remember watching a weekly television program titled In Search Of… as a child. The series investigated mysteries and phenomena. I would sit engrossed as the existence of UFOs as well as historical events like the Lincoln assassination were examined. It was breezy way to pass time and I always felt like I was learning something new, even though each show began with a disclaimer that the theories expressed were based on conjecture.

One form of media, a perennial bestseller, does not need such a disclaimer. We don’t have to be “in search of” its Author as He is always with us. We only have to accept Him. Every time I study the Bible I don’t just feel I am learning something vital for my existence, I know. The Bible is God’s Word. God’s Word has been tried, tested and proven throughout time. It is unwavering in the face of changing social mores. It is everlasting in a world of passing fads. Don’t take my word for it – study the Word for yourself.

May the Lord be with you.

The Word of The Lord Stands Forever – Daily Inspiration, July 17, 2102

“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fail, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” 1 Peter 1: 24-25

Our possessions, accomplishments and acquaintances will all eventually fade away, but the word of God stands forever. Let’s spend less time today chasing after and guarding those things that will sooner or later fall from our grasp, and spend more of our energy and time on that which is permanent: God’s word and eternal life in Jesus Christ.

God bless you today and always.
