What Are Your Heart’s Desires? – Daily Inspiration, July 26, 2012

“The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:17

Worldliness is not an altogether external behavior. It begins internally and is characterized by our desires, which stem from the heart. We may outwardly disassociate ourselves with worldly pleasures but if we internally crave gratifying physical desires, preoccupy ourselves with accumulating wealth and material possessions and strive to attain status and importance, then we still have a worldly attitude. Having wealth, valued possessions and goals is not bad; it’s when we make them our gods and turn away from the One True God that it becomes sinful. Focus, instead, on self-control, generosity and serving others. We have had jolting reminders recently of the danger and devastation that unfolds when men and women place a higher value on their own will instead of valuing the will of the Father: the Aurora shootings, the Penn State molestations and even the current Jackson family drama and Twilight star Kristen Stewart’s indiscretion with a married man. All began with a desire in the heart none was willing or able to control.

What are your heart’s desires? Are you desperate for worldly comforts? Earnest prayer and confession will help you overcome desires that go against God’s will.

May the Lord be with you today.

God Responds To His Obedient Children – Daily Inspiration, July 25, 2012

“During the days of Jesus’ life on Earth, He offered prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission.” Hebrews 5:7

We sometimes undergo trials not because we want to suffer, but because we want to do God’s will. Like Jesus, we should be obedient to the end. Let His example sustain and encourage you during trying times. We can endure knowing that Christ is with us.

May the grace of Jesus Christ be with you.

“Where Is God?” – Daily Inspiration, July 23, 2102

“There is a time for everything and a season for evert activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

You may have asked or may be asking yourself now, “Where is God?” especially when troubles mount or our plans go awry. God’s plans for us don’t always match the plans we make for ourselves. His will for us does not match our will. When we choose to trust God, we must also trust His timing, no matter how difficult it is for us to understand. Don’t doubt or resent God’s timing. Doing so can lead to despair, rebellion and moving forward without making Him the center of your decisions. There is never a time to doubt God’s complete love for us. Not now. Not ever.

God bless you today.
