Bear With The Failings Of The Weak – Daily Inspiration, July 24, 2012

“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: ‘The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.'” Romans 15:1 – 3

It is not strength, but weakness that makes people search for ways to destroy another’s confidence, happiness or contentment. Usually, these people are missing these elements in their own lives and may not even realize the hurt they cause when they make those off-putting remarks and hurtful statements. It is natural to want to respond in kind, but take a moment, breathe deeply, and remember Romans 15:1. There are times we should bear with the failings of the weak by recognizing the weakness and doing all we can to encourage them spiritually. Bearing with another’s weakness is not the same as accepting abuse. In fact, it is the opposite. The stronger person understands the problem does not lie in himself, but in the heart of the weaker person. If you find yourself today in the company of a person who seems to go out of his or her way to unfairly criticize you, resist the temptation to “get even”. Instead, use it as an opportunity build up that person so he or she can have the same peace, contentment, confidence and happiness that is inside you.

May the Lord be with you today.
